We
want parents to feel welcome in the school and encourage them
to visit in their child's class and to participate actively in
the activities of the school. The following are some of the many
opportunities that parents have to become involved and share in
their child's school experience.
Board of Directors
The Roosevelt Island Day Nursery is run by a Parent
Board of Directors. The Board acts as a liaison between the staff
and the parents and helps plan programs, monitors fiscal affairs,
and runs fundraising events to support the scholarship fund. Parents
are encouraged to become members of the Parent Board or to become
class parents and to help with fundraising activities and to volunteer
in the classrooms.
Meetings and Conferences
At the Day Nursery, we provide opportunities for
meeting regularly with parents. Classroom meetings to learn about
the curriculum are held in October and further meetings are scheduled
throughout the year. Formal individual conferences (both Parent/Teacher and Family)
are scheduled in November, January and May of each school year.
One of the special things we do at the Day Nursery
is our Family Conferences which provide the opportunity for the
family, parents and child, to meet with the teachers. We strongly
support the idea of the family and school working together to
promote the child's development in all areas. Teachers are always
available throughout the year to answer questions for additional
meetings as needed.
Holidays and Classroom Celebrations
One of the advantages of our international school
population is the wealth of holidays that are celebrated by our
families. We are eager to share these holidays with all the children.
We celebrate holidays by emphasizing the aspects that are appropriate
to the children. We sing songs, make arts and crafts, and cook
special foods. Parents are invited to help plan and participate
in these holiday celebrations.
